Global Day of Action for Climate Justice
Business as usual has us underwater.
For decades, the legal industry has been a key player in the climate crisis by litigating, lobbying, and facilitating transactions on behalf of the fossil fuel industry. The work of the fossil fuel industry, and the lawyers that uphold it, have plummeted us into planetary catastrophe. Communities across the globe are increasingly dealing with destructive storms, historic floods, and raging wildfires. As the climate crisis continues to unfold, legal professionals can no longer hide from the impact of their work supporting the fossil fuel industry.
We have compiled resources to help navigate the legal job search, including helpful interview questions, upcoming contract language, information on the Solicitor’s Qualifying Exam and training contracts, and a growing list of law firms that could align with your climate values. Our Resources tab also includes a library of video recordings covering past events and webinars, including report launches and conversations with legal professionals.
Last, our ongoing Legal Legacies series is a narrative project that aims to tie environmental injustices to the law firms facilitating them. The current pieces are linked below. If you have ideas or interest in contributing to the series, contact info@ls4ca.org!
We can choose to live in harmony with the Earth.
On this Global Day of Action for Climate Justice, we can collectively take action to learn more about the role that the legal industry plays in the climate crisis and the communities at the forefront of climate disaster, and then turn the tide on complicity by urging law firms to leave fossil fuels behind.
Take action by signing onto our petition calling for firms to phase out their representation of the fossil fuel industry, in effort to hold law firms accountable for their role in the climate crisis.
