THE PROBLEM IS
law firms play an integral role in the evolution and outcome of our world’s climate crisis, including transactions that finance fossil fuel development, litigation that prevents climate accountability, and lobbying for the fossil fuel industry. We are urging law firms to realize and establish an ethical standard for their fossil fuel work and show greater transparency on their role in the climate crisis.
OUR SOLUTION IS
to activate and mobilize the power of law students to transform the legal industry’s role from exacerbating climate injustice to meaningfully supporting a just transition. We aspire to move legal ethics and practice towards a just transition for our climate, in solidarity with frontline communities, to build an equitable and sustainable world in our lifetimes.
WHO WE ARE
Law Students for Climate Accountability is a student-led organization that seeks to amplify the roles and responsibilities of the legal industry in our current climate crisis. Since our formation in 2020, we have worked to build a movement; urging law students, lawyers, firms and stakeholders to ask questions, self-educate, and empower one another to forge a livable future.
LSCA activates and mobilizes the power of law students to transform the legal industry’s role from exacerbating climate injustice to meaningfully supporting a just transition. We aspire to move legal ethics and practice towards a just transition for our climate, in solidarity with frontline communities, to build an equitable and sustainable world in our lifetimes.
We believe in the power of collectivity – it is not a single voice that leads us, but the collective chant of many.
WHAT WE DO
Provide data and insights into the role of the law firms in the climate crisis.
Law firms choose their clients. When firms work for fossil fuel companies, it further tips the playing field toward high-paying climate destroyers and away from a livable future.
